The Fandom Snowflake Challenge Day Seven/Drabble: Iterum
Day Seven of the Fandom Snowflake Challenge: In your own space, create a fanwork. A drabble, a ficlet, a podfic, or an icon, art or meta or a rec list. A picspam. Something. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Here's a quick drabble!

Title: Iterum
Author: baudown
Characters: Spike, Angel
Disclaimer: Not mine
Summary: Post-NFA
Word count: 100

Angel stops abruptly, staring at the smoking rubble.

"I think," he says, breaking three days' silence, "I'm done with humans, for a while."

Spike can understand the sentiment.  All of them, gone; and the losses still fresh.  Humans are too perishable -- that damned, built-in expiration date.  Eternity's an awfully long time to grieve.

It's so new that he forgets, but there it is again -- the terrified thud of his beating heart.  "Does that," Spike asks shakily, "include me?"

Angel starts walking.  He doesn't look back.

"One exception," he mutters, slowing his pace, until Spike falls in step by his side.

This is excellent!

Thank you! Generally, I write excruciatingly slowly -- even drabbles. It was good to spit this one out fast!

Oh, that was lovely.

"Eternity's an awfully long time to grieve. Sniff...

Thank you, hon. I've only written them once before, and that one was sad too. Hmm...

Whee! I like this fandom snowflake thing. :)

I'm enjoying it, too -- much more than I expected!

Excellent! It's not often a shanshued Spike story leaves me smiling.

I can't decide whether this is happy or sad -- a little of both, I guess. Shanshu always seems like a very mixed bag to me.

I agree! There have been times when I've been pretty sold on Shanshu'd Spike, but for the most part I hold with the idea that he's happier as a vampire than he ever was/would be as a human. I don't like... taking that away from him? Even Angel Shanshuing and loving it is a little bit of a stretch for me considering the events of "I Will Remember You."

But this did make me smile ("One exception") because Angel appears to have forgotten about Spike's shanshu, too, and then has to amend his assertion. Spike messes up his plans again, haha. I admit I do enjoy watching people foil Angel's brooding.

Re: Shanshu -- I feel exactly the same way.

Great job! This is Angel to a tee, and I had no idea, having stopped watching the series after they killed Cordy, that Spike ends up being a human!

Heh! He doesn't! Only in fic...

I can understand why you stopped watching then. I almost stopped toward the end of season 4, but the show actually has one of the best finales of any show I've ever seen. Give it another shot sometime!

I think I'd probably still pounce on the chance to see the finale for free, if just to see how things actually did end, but, and as much as I hate to admit, I can't seem to sit through the show. It's the weirdest thing. Back when it was current, I loved Angel up until the whole Jasmine thing, stopped watched BtVS after Angel and Cordy left the series.

We rewatched BtVS last year from the very beginning all the way through to the end. We now own and LOVE the entire series! After we finished, we tried to start on Angel -- twice -- and although we've watched the first season that we'd already had before buying BtVS a couple of times and always enjoyed it, we couldn't sit through it. It seemed somehow suddenly stilted. So we bought the first season of Angel with Spike, managed a few episodes, and that was it. I still can't believe what a disappointment it was, but I'll still never stop loving the characters!
